It was a tough night in Phoenix on Sunday as the Suns disappointed the faithful with a 105 - 100 loss at the hands of the Portland Trailblazers that knocks our homecourt advantage into a cocked hat and raises a few doubts about whether the Suns victory train is sustainable.

Leading the list of disappointments for the night is Amar'e Stoudemire - he hit just 8 of 19 shots from the field and fouled-out at a point in the fourth quarter when the game was still in doubt. A string of Suns misses from beyond the 3-point arc during the last two minutes of play also added to the anxiety of tonight's defeat.

Why didn't Phoenix just go for some quick twos instead of chasing elusive 3-point opportunities that just were not meant to be?? Those of us outside the locker room may never know but that trio of missed long balls cost the Suns six points on the scoreboard and kept Phoenix from closing the gap.

So the Suns went down to a hard fought loss because they just wouldn't take the close range shots that were being given to them. Talk about a case of the perfect being the enemy of the good.

On a more hopeful note - those who followed our early Sunday betting advice and threw some cash on the over/under bet in Vegas or Reno - can actually collect some winnings because the Big Boys in the oddsmaking business underestimated what the total score would be at game's end.

Remember the Las Vegas Hilton said that 203 points was the cut-off and MGM's casinos set the mark at 204.5 points - both a bit shy of the actual 205 points that was scored.

But while those of you who read up on www.sunsstufft.com collect your winnings - your partying shouldn't be too sweet or too long lived.

Instead, you should be joining with every other Suns fan on Monday in hoping that Alvin Gentry finds a formula for reconstructing the Suns victory hopes in a first round play-off series that is turning into a hellish experience for all of us.

See ya'.
