The reports coming in from San Diego are all gushing with positives - and that's good considering the Suns haven't even hit the court for a game yet. One of the most upbeat is a brief story posted on the team's site and reachable at www.nba.com/suns/new/newsroom. Written by Josh Greene it gives readers a glimpse at players adjusting to a tough training schedule that includes two practices a day - one with players facing-up against each other for some five-on-five action. It also gives Coach Alvin Gentry an opportunity to indoctrinate the Suns in his reinvigorated fast paced offense. The same offense that averaged 117 points a game during Gentry's time at the helm last season.
Of course, the veterans don't need the schooling but they are getting a fierce work-out nonetheless. "Steve , Grant, and Amar'e have played this way four out of the last five years," Gentry said. "Some of the things we've put back in the offense will just come naturally to them. I don't see it as a learning curve. Just getting into basketball shape will take care of it."
It is all building up to an intra-squad scrimmage set for Saturday afternoon. We'll keep you in the loop in the run-up to the first test for the roster.
