Remember the talk about the Suns being among the most -ahem- elderly of NBA teams. Not quite fit for the old folks home, we were told, but clearly in need of a youth injection. Well - forget about it!!!!!

It was the geezer brigade - with Steve Nash nailing seven absolutely necessary fourth quarter points - and Grant Hill grabbing a stunning 13 rebounds - that guided the Suns to a thrilling 109 -107 victory. So - at least tonight - their two big dollar$$$ contracts paid-off on the court.

Nash put his 35-year old body and crafty passing to work by scoring 24 points and making 8 assists. Hill, a 37-year old who has more years in the NBA than most of the refs, nailed 19 points in addition to hoggin' those boards. The other Suns scoring machines were led by Leandro Barbosa with 17 points, and Amar'e Stoudemire hit for 16 points and snagged 5 rebounds. Channing Frye did his part to spread the floor by hitting for 12 points and grabbing 4 rebounds.

Yes - hitting for 109 points isn't a record setting pace for the Suns - but it isn't bad for a team missing much of their scoring firepower until Jason Richardson returns from his two game suspension this weekend. And the scoring from Amar'e is still not at full potential as he continues to re-adjust to playing after injuries took him out of the line-up in April.

This was noted by Suns GM Steve Kerr during an afternoon interview on KTAR Radio before the game. "...Amar'e's timing, rhythm and explosiveness are not where it's going to be," Kerr said. "It's going to be a little bumpy early on."

Coach Alvin Gentry has also called it essential for Amar'e to get up to full speed. "...He has to be the focal point of the offense," said Gentry. "We're going to have to give him some time - he's played eight games in 6 1/2 months."

Thanks geezer guys - we may have to try some cryogenics before the regular season ends - but after tonight you're going to deserve every bit of freon we can pump into you.

See ya'
