Well the hits just keep coming and today has brought another baby step in the right direction.

What else can be said about the - what do you call it? - deporting of Dan Dickau that was announced by the Suns less than 24 hours ago. Yep, that hapless one has been deep-sixed in favor of saving some green for those penny pinchers with the thin wallets who own our crew. And it was about time.

We have few kind words to say about GM Steve Kerr and the wrecking ball he has subjected the Suns to during his ugly stint at the helm, but the ditching of Dickau is to be applauded. Averaging a mere 2.8 points and 1.4 assists in the five pre-season games he appeared in for the the Suns, Dickau demonstrated an inability to ever really reach for the sky.

To be blunt, Dan never performed well on the court for the Suns and no amount of practice was ever going to turn him into an impact player. Yes - it is sad to say - but selling cars could very well be the right career choice for this would-be star.

But - in a move that may prove regrettable - the bosses on high also dropped former South Carolina Gamecock Carlos Powell from the roster. Yes my children - as so often happens during the Reign of Kerr - every sunny day must bring at least a little rain.

As part of a team that prides itself on scoring big and running fast, the 26-year old Powell averaged 6.2 ppg during his abbreviated pre-season with Phoenix including a helpful 12 points during our Oct. 14 win over Portland. In nearly 60 pre-season minutes on the court Carlos showed some flash hitting nearly 43% from beyond the arc but his less than impressive rebounding skills made barely a blip on the radar with just over two boards per game. Sound familiar?

The lack of Powell on the frontline could be felt as early as this evening when the Suns go up against the Portland Trailbazers in a rematch of last week's 110 - 104 Suns victory. Powell was a valuable contributor to that win and spent 22 minutes hitting better than 80% from the floor and snagging three defensive rebounds. It was his best performance during his time with Phoenix and - in our humble opinion - it deserved at little more consideration than it received.

We'll see what tonight brings.
